Education

Banking and Finance

Acted as Bahrain counsel for the refinancing of USD1.5-billion Islamic and conventional financing for a Bahraini entity. The transaction involved cross-border restructuring of a multinational group and its Bahrain subsidiary. The Bahrain subsidiary operated as a joint venture with a local partner nominee but wholly controlled by the group.

Al Dur2 Power Project

Acted as borrower’s counsel in relation to financing of the Al Dur2 IWPP Independent Water and Power Project. The plant is being developed at Al Dur, Bahrain and is to generate 1,500MW of power based on Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) technology and produce 50MIGD of water through Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) technology.

Professional Experience

Satellite Antenna Licensing

Advised a US based client in relation to VSAT licensing requirements, including requirements for establishing earth station in Bahrain and approved frequency band which could be used to communicate with a foreign owner satellite via an uplink for onward transmission down to another earth station via downlink.

Fintech

Advised various local and foreign entities on multiple issues relating to fintech regulatory framework in Bahrain and the CBB approvals required for undertaking regulated fintech activities in Bahrain.
