Ahmed Zakaria is a Partner at ASAR and has been with the firm since 1998. Ahmed has significant experience in all types of litigation and arbitration and has conducted complex commercial transactions involving banking and finance, Islamic financing, intellectual property and construction. Ahmed holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) from the University of Cairo (1986), a Diplome de Droit des Affaires Internationales (D.E.S) from the Institut de Droit des Affaires Internationales Cairo University– Cairo, Egypt (1992), and a Master of Laws Degree (LL.M) from Columbia University, New York USA (1994). Ahmed is a member of the Egyptian Bar Association (1986) and the International Bar Association. Ahmed’s practice languages are Arabic, English and French.
2015 / 2016 highlights
- Representing a client in a USD 50 million claim by a Kuwait individual investor against an international bank (our client) related to the cost of derivative transactions.
- Presently representing Sukuk holders in a USD 25.5 million claim against the debtor which, inter-alia, involves the following collecting outstanding amount; sale of pledged shares enforcement of assignment of rights given by the debtor; suing the debtor’s board of directors for fraudulent acts; and filing summary actions requesting the appointment of a receiver.
- Advised on a USD 250 million loan by a bank to a U.A.E subsidiary of our client to discharge obligations under a previous facility.
